Periodically as the release date of StruCalc looms nearer (2nd Quarter 2008) the development team will give you teasers of new features that have been added. This week we are featuring the new cantilever Hip/Valley Beam Design feature inside the Roof Beam Design Module.

What this new feature allows you to do is take a hip/valley beam that is supported at both ends, add an intermediate support. Now you have the option to cantilever one end of the beam and add a point load at the end.

The first hip/valley beam module shows you your options:

Cantilever Hip Beam One

Selecting Intermediate Support gives the new cantilever options:

Cantilever Hip Beam Two

Above the hip/valley beam is supported at both ends A & B. Selecting Cantilever Support A will remove support A and cantilever the beam allowing you to add a point load on the end:

Cantilever Hip Beam Three

This feature will be useful to designers who need to use cantilever hip beams to support a ridge beam. As always StruCalc then determines the trapezoidal loads along the hip beam and adjusts for the slopes.
